The second International Forum “The role of media in preventing violent extremism” organized by Internews within the framework of the European Union funded project “Contributing to stability and peace in Central Asia” will take place on August 14, 2019.
The forum will bring together representatives of the media community, as well as non-governmental organizations (NGOs), public opinion leaders and experts on issues of radicalism leading to violence from Central Asian countries and abroad.
The forum objective is to discuss the role of media in preventing radicalisation in Central Asian countries, to share experience in implementing successful local and global media initiatives, to conduct expert sessions and demonstrate cases of how independent media can interact and enhance communication with their communities (especially with youth, women, ethnic and religious minorities).
A comprehensive discussion of media initiatives on preventing radicalisation leading to violence will help strengthen national and regional cooperation in order to enhance dialogue in the region and will become an important platform in finding solutions and successful practices in this area.
The forum participants will share cases on successful or unlucky community engagement initiatives, as well as discuss the lessons learned and opportunities to adapt successful media practices in the countries of the region.
