Review of Defamation Lawsuits Initiated by the Prosecutor General of the Kyrgyz Republic to Defend Honor and Dignity of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic (against the Zanoza.kg news website, etc.). A.K. Alagushev, N.I. Alisheva, A.B. Isaeva, B.D. Usenova.
This review was occasioned by a number of trials against journalists and human rights activists based on defamation lawsuits where the Prosecutor General of the Kyrgyz Republic acted as the plaintiff to defend honor and dignity of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic. In all the five case trials, counsels of the Media Policy Institute represented defendants including the Public Foundation ProMedia and its founders Narynbek Idinov (author of three publications disputed) and Dina Maslova (Editor-in-Chief of the Zanoza.kg website). Counsels of the Public Foundation Adilet Legal Clinic also represented the defendants.
Attached to this Review are materials on the five judicial cases including statements of claim, all judgments issued by two court instances, and reports on linguistic investigation of publications disputed.
The review is intended for legal experts, judges, lawyers, journalists, and broader range of users interested in compliance practice issues related to slander and defamation cases.
