Internews Network launches new regional Project “Access to information” in cooperation with USAID
A new three-year, Access to Information Project (A2i), will be implemented by Internews Network in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan with the support of the American People through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The goal of A2i will be to increase citizen access to civically-relevant information in order to improve governance outcomes. Collectively, constructive interactions between citizens and the state on good governance issues lead to sounder policy, more responsive government institutions, and improved social services, simultaneously reducing the potential of social, ethnic, and other forms of conflict. The program will increase citizen access to civically-relevant information through four complementary objectives: • Increased regional cooperation to improve the competitiveness of non-state media outlets through content generation and sharing; • Increased resilience of independent media to survive the impending, treaty-mandated shift to digital broadcasting across Central Asia in 2015; • Strengthened diversity and professionalism of voices in traditional and “new” media; and • Improved legal and policy environment for media. The representatives of the ministries and the government departments of the Kyrgyz Republic, as well as the United States Embassy and USAID representatives, and journalists and partners of Internews Network will be welcomed as guests to the presentation that will take place at 4 p.m. at Internews’ new office located at 234A Chokmorova Str., Bishkek. “We are pleased to continue our cooperation with the local media and welcome all media representatives in our new office. Internews Network will provide visiting journalists with free Internet and a conference room, and invites everyone to the Internews media events that will be held on a regular basis” – said Deputy Chief of Party Mr. Mark Walsh.
