Disinformation and Factchecking
In 2020, Internews Kyrgyzstan gave a boost to a fact-checking initiative in the country when four newsrooms united under the aegis of Media Blockpost to combat misinformation associated with COVID, vaccine, masks, 5 G’s, etc.
Afterwards seven editors’ offices united to fight misinformation and fake news. Ultimately, the Checkit Media platform was created to focus on the video format and create Kyrgyz language content, for there the findings of the media consumption studies show this is popular among the local audience.
Moreover, Internews participated in the “Tecksherdim!” campaign to promote media literacy among young people and university students.
Checkit Media Editor-in-Chief Assel Sooronbayeva spoke about Kyrgyzstan’s experience of combating disinformation at the 24th OSCE Central Asian Conference on Media (CACM)…
