Since September 2022 Internews has been implementing a regional project APRICOT (Accountable Practices for Reporting Information on Conflicts to Offset Tensions) in Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, the purpose of which is to provide journalists, mass media and civil society with opportunities to cooperate and build capacity, overcoming ethnic differences in communities along the border of two neighboring countries.
The project seeks to strengthen cohesion within these diverse communities by interacting with cross-border media to improve coverage of border conflicts.
APRICOT supports media projects for regional audiences on the history, consequences of conflicts and crises that have affected people’s lives, health, culture and economy. Grant support was provided for analytical publications on the causes of conflicts and their possible solutions.
The project contributes to improving the information environment by preventing the spread of misinformation, rumors and hate speech, which in turn will help the people of two countries to make informed and balanced decisions in response to conflicts and crises, affecting their lives.
