Summary of job responsibilities:

  • Oversee the management and implementation of all activities carried out under the project as support to the Chief of Party (CoP), and lead the project team in the COP’s absence
  • Represent Internews and the project before USAID and other donors, US government and host country government officials, local partners, other implementing organizations, and the public
  • Supervise project staff members as designated by the COP
  • Serve as the lead advisor/trainer for local media on issues of content quality and editorial policy, including conducting baseline and periodic quality assessments at Key Partner outlets and documenting findings for the project’s M&E and information management systems
  • Liaise with and advise project consultants and trainers, particularly those focused on helping local media improve the quality and diversity of their content offerings
  • Provide content for and edit donor reports in coordination with the COP, other project staff and consultants, and Internews HQ staff
  • Help coordinate the introduction of a people metering system in Kyrgyzstan
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of news, trends, and challenges in the Kyrgyzstani and broader Eurasian media sector
  • Communicate closely Internews HQ and the COP to ensure coordination across all activities and compliance with USAID and internal regulations


  •  At least five years experience working in the field of media, news room management, television production or online news production in Kyrgyzstan, Central Asia or Eurasian region
  • Experience as a manager or trainer with professional capacity-building programs for journalists and media outlets
  • Previous senior-level management experience, including significant staff, financial and administrative oversight
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and management skills
  • Strong knowledge of spoken and written English and Russian required; knowledge of Kyrgyz is an asset
  • Experience managing/working on USAID or USG-funded programs preferred
